The African Students Association (ASA) was established in 2013 when some African students in T.S.U. observed the increasing number of Africans coming to T.S.U., and as a result felt the need to have an African student body. A.S.A. was established to:

  •  Promote the appreciation and integration of cultural diversity
  •  Promote interaction among students, faculty, staff, and other like-minded organization inside and outside Tennessee State University
  •  Assisting members to adjust to their new environment at Tennessee State University

Mission: “promoting cultural heritage and encouraging diversity”

Motto:  “Unity in Diversity”

Awards: International Champions Award – December 2015. Presented by the Office of Diversity TSU, because of our understanding commitment to cultural diversity and unification

2016 Diversity Program of the Year Oscar Award - April 2016. Presented by the Office of Student Activities (Student Government Association) TSU, an award which recognizes the best program sponsored by a registered student organization that demonstrates what it means to celebrate unification among diversity

2017 Diversity Program of the Year Oscar Award - April 2017. Presented by the Office of Student Activities (Student Government Association) TSU.

2017 Educational Program of the Year Oscar Award - April 2017. Presented by the Office of Student Activities (Student Government Association) TSU, This award recognizes the organization that has hosted the best program that has contributed to the mission of Tennessee State University, encouraged students to continue their learning outside of the classroom.

2017 Social Program of the Year Oscar Award - April 2017. Presented by the Office of Student Activities (Student Government Association) TSU, t his award recognizes the best social program that has provided a fun-spirited, entertaining atmosphere and also encouraged students to interact positively with their peers and community.

2017 Collaborative Program of the Year Oscar Award - April 2017. Presented by the Office of Student Activities (Student Government Association) TSU, This award recognizes the best co-sponsored program by registered student organizations that have demonstrated how meaningful partnerships, teamwork, and synergy can make an impact on campus.
