In addition to training throughout the year, ROTC offers a variety of summer programs (called Professional Development Training) at a plethora of different Air Force bases throughout the country. PDT’s are one of the most beneficial aspects of AFROTC, because they allow cadets to see in detail the workings of the Air Force and to get a feel for what will be expected of them once they commission. Unlike normal training, they offer cadets the chance to experience the life of active duty airmen and to shadow officers involved in a myriad of different career fields. Professional Development Training is completely voluntary, and all expenses for the trip are paid for by the Air Force.
