onto the World Lecture Series, 2000-2001
Academic Year - Spring Semester
THURSDAY, APRIL 5th INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
The overall goal of this, TSU's first international festival is
to stimulate and strengthen interaction among international students,
their U.S. peers, faculty, and the community. The festival is the
final event in this year's 'Windows onto the World Lecture Series'.
This festival will:
- create an outlet for cultural expression for the international
students, encourage them to have more visibility and involvement
on campus
- educate and promote intercultural awareness and appreciation
among US students & faculty link agencies/ businesses/corporations
and the community at large in greater Nashville with the Office
of International Business Programs
- include intercultural entertainment, speakers, ethnic foods
6 displays from the international community including the business
community.
Companies doing business internationally
are invited to display their products) and services, and have the
opportunity to network with students, faculty/staff and other businesses
involved.

Series
The Jan, Feb, 6 March presentations will take place in the Atrium
of the TSU Avon Williams Campus from 12:00 1:30pm. The International
Festival will be held at the Main Campus.

Ukraine
Comes to Tennessee State University
TSU has recently entered into a partnership with the L'viv Institute
of Management (LIM) in Ukraine, together with Lincoln University
in Missouri and the Nashville Area and Brentwood Chambers of Commerce.
A USAID-funded grant managed by the Association Liaison Office of
the American Council on Education will facilitate the activities
under this two-year partnership.
In 1990, LIM became one of the first institutions in Eastern Europe
to offer n western-style MBA degree and is today recognized throughout
Ukraine as a leader in management education.

Relations at LIM and is responsible for managing linkages with
American and European universities and business schools. |

Petro Yanyts'kiy has served as Executive
Director of LIM since 1994 and is responsible for the overall
management of the Institute. |
Messrs. Ihor Nykolyn and Petro Yanyts'kiy of LIM will discuss the
following subjects:
- An overview of the economy of Western Ukraine
- The L'viv Institute of Management and its program
- How the partnership will Impact education at LIM and promote
private sector growth in Western Ukraine.

Caterpillar Financial Services (CAT Financial), subsidiary of Caterpillar
Inc., is globally active in Asia, Australia, Europe Latin America
and North America with their headquarters in Nashville, TN. They
are "high-tech and high touch, grounded and groundbreaking,
global and local."
CAT Financial is a recipient of the Tennessee Quality Excellence
Award of 1999. It is only the second company to earn Global Excellence
Commendation, which gauges an organizational readiness to compete
in the global arena. They maintain that regardless of the advances
of technology, building relationships face?to?face should never
go away.
CAT Financial will form a panel consisting
of international employees working in the U.S. and U.S. born employees
who have worked overseas. The panelists will address what students
should consider from nn educational and personal perspective. Included
will be:
- Preparing to work in an international setting
- Working in the U.S. ? An international employee's perspective
- Responding to the challenges of globalization and corporate
diversity

Business in Taiwan, The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta
Last year the Windows onto the World
program began with a discussion of doing business in China. Now
we turn our attention to neighboring Taiwan and invite you to hear
from the Director of the Commercial Division of the Taipei Economic
& Cultural Office, Taiwan's trade information center in Atlanta.
Established by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Atlanta center
promotes trade and economic Financial relations between Taiwan and
the Southeastern United States and facilitates two?way trade and
investment between Taiwan, the Republic of China and the U.S.
With a population just over 20 million,
Taiwan is a mountainous island off the coast of China about the
size of Massachusetts. Often known as one of the "Four Tigers;"
the country has experienced dramatic economic success in nearly
50 years of development. Its economy is considered by many to be
a "development miracle" with sustained high rates of growth.
Taiwan's economic structure has undergone gradual reconfiguration
due to international competition and the transformation of its own
domestic industries. The economy has become increasingly open to
trade and free form earlier restrictive and protectionist tendencies.
Absolute poverty has been virtually eliminated.
Mr. David Wang
Mr.
David Wang has a Master's Degree in International Business from
Taiwan National Cheng-Chi University. He is currently Director of
Commercial Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.
- has had a wide range of experience within Taiwan's government
sector,
- served in Australia for 4 years before his promotion to be an
assistant officer in the office of Taiwan's Vice Minister of Economic
Affairs in 1993.
