The 43rd Annual Meeting of the African Studies Association (ASA) at the Nashville Convention Center

Nashville was chosen from among 15 cities to host the ASA 2000 convention. Dr. James A. Hefner, TSU President, was instrumental in the ASA’s decision to meet in Nashville, having issued a letter of invitation to the organization in 1995. The ASA has appointed an Arrangements Committee composed of faculty members from TSU and the other Middle TN host universities - Austin Peay University, Fisk University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of the South, and Vanderbilt University.

About the African Studies Association…

The largest annual gathering of Africanists in the world, the ASA conference will bring together more than 1,500 scholars, government officials, development professionals, and others interested in the study and future of Africa. It is an opportunity for students and faculty to interact with researchers and scholars in the field of African Studies and for the private sector and community organizations to reach an audience of persons committed to promoting Africa.

Windows onto the World will play an active role in recruiting TSU students to work as hosts for this gathering. This event will take the place of a WOW lecture for November. Student volunteers will be admitted free. For others, there is a special student rate of $20 for the 3 and a half-day event. For faculty members and non-members of the ASA the fee is $60 and $90 respectively.
