Students receive assistance with credential
and resume development, job search and interview strategies. Students
are advised regarding career options, part time employment, and
job placement. They obtain assistance with graduate application
packets and with personal essays that are needed for the application
process. Faculty members take advantage of the services of this
office by inviting the Assistant Director for Student Placement
into their classrooms for workshop presentations. Counseling is
a significant component of the services provided in that students
need a safe environment in which to share life experiences and
goals and to explore alternatives.
Recruiters schedule on-campus interviews
and information sessions through the office. Students are notified
via memos, assignment in classes, postings on bulletin boards
around the COB, and individual contacts. Often recruiters pre-select
students before the student is placed on the interview schedule.
Information sessions have become more utilized as a means for
students to self-screen. Lists of recruiters are maintained on
an Excel spreadsheet. The MonsterTRAK.com
package that has been recently initiated by the Career
Center, will make this process more efficient starting with
the Fall 2002 semester.
The Internship
Program is under constant upgrading. The internship course requirements
have been placed on the College
of Business website. A PowerPoint presentation is required
of each student at the closing of the semester and is presented
before peers, faculty/staff, and host organization supervisors.
This has been a very successful tool for all students to benefit
from each others experiences.
In order to more systematically determine
students plans upon graduation, e.g. employment and graduate
school, a form has been devised that is disseminated through the
MG 450 course, Business Strategy and Policy. This course was selected
as it is one of the last courses taken prior to graduation and
is a requirement for graduation.
