Dr. Galen Hull, Director

Dr. Hull received a B.A. in History in 1963 from Texas Christian University, an M.A. in International Relations from American University in 1967, and a Ph.D. in Political Science in 1974 from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the College of Business, Dr. Hull's career spanned over 35 years as an international development consultant, including with donor agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private firms in countries in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. He served as senior project manager in the home office of Washington-based development consulting firms and consortia as well as consultant on numerous foreign assignments. Beginning his career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, Africa, Dr. Hull developed and demonstrated a high degree of cross cultural sensitivity and interpersonal skills while working in a wide variety of environments. He has traveled in 85 countries and worked in over 30 countries and speaks several languages.

In January 1999, Dr. Galen Spencer Hull was named Director of International Programs in the College of Business at Tennessee State University in Nashville. His mission was to direct a new initiative aimed at internationalizing the curriculum and capabilities of the College of Business, promoting linkages with universities abroad and with the Middle Tennessee business community. He has been aided in this mission by an Assistant Director and MBA graduate assistants. The Office of International Business Programs has grown and prospered under Dr. Hull's leadership. He has written numerous grant proposals, several of which have been funded, allowing OIBP to establish linkages with international universities and institutes. His active role in the World Trade Council and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce has facilitated internships for TSU students. The Windows onto the World lecture series is now an established feature of College of Business programs.

Dr. Hull has published numerous articles and four books, including A Small Business Agenda: Trends in a Global Economy (1986) and Small Businesses Trickling Up in Central and Eastern Europe (1999).

Anis Mnif (2004-2006) Project Administrator – Tunisia Partnership

In September 2004, when TSU was notified of the award of the Tunisia grant by the U.S. State department, Anis was employed by OIBP to work as Project Administrator to assist in managing the partnership with the University of Tunis el Manar. He first joined OIBP as a Graduate Assistant in August 2002, the third Tunisian student to work here. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Management with concentration in Human Resources at the Institut Superieur de Gestion in Tunis and also worked three years for Nestle as sales manager in the Marketing Department. He completed his MBA degree in May 2004. While a Graduate Assistant in OIBP he was involved in maintaining the accounting records and managing funds for grant expenditures for projects in Malawi and Ukraine as well as the Business and International Education and Title III grants. He was also responsible for creating and organizing promotional materials for activities sponsored by the office. In June 2003, Anis traveled to Tunis to accompany Dr. Hull in developing a proposal for funding a linkage with the University of Tunis. He made all the arrangements and helped with putting the proposal together. Anis is fluent in Arabic and French and is rapidly developing fluency in English as well.
