TSU Impact Study

OBER recently produced an impact study analyzing the Economic Impact of Tennessee State University on Greater Nashville. The study was released on Thursday, October 10, in the Robert N. Murrell Forum of the Floyd-Payne Campus Center. The study was presented in conjunction with the Agora Assembly of Nashville, an association of African-American professionals in Middle Tennessee. The study shows that the university has a $493.5 million impact on the Nashville area. The report chronicles the areas in which the school contributes to the local economy. Those areas include banking, communications, real estate and domestic trade. TSU directly injects about $268 million into the Greater Nashville economy annually. For every dollar in direct spending on local goods and services, TSU generated another 84 cents in indirect spending, or about $225 million. Mayor Bill Purcell agrees with the results of the impact study and said that the study verifies how beneficial TSU’s role is to the local economy and he applauds the university’s contribution, both academically and economically.
