Vicki King has degrees in piano from Mississippi University for Women and Indiana University. Her Doctor of Arts degree in Piano Pedagogy is from the University of Mississippi. She holds a Performer's Certificate in Piano from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and studied piano in Cologne, Germany with Pavel Gililov. In addition, she studied harpsichord in Hamburg, Germany for two years with Gisela Gumz.
She has taught students of all levels for over 40 years, both in the United States and in Europe. She worked in Germany as an opera coach and ballet accompanist for five years, and has worked as a professional accompanist for singers and instrumentalists. For over twenty years she worked with the AIMS program in Graz, Austria, as a vocal coach. In 1995, she was one of 20 pianists from 10 countries to go to China and tour music conservatories, where she lectured on natural playing. She is the author of the book, Playing the Piano Naturally, published by Conners Publications and numerous articles published in Piano Guild Notes. She is Assistant Professor of Piano at Tennessee State University and Coordinator of Piano Studies. She is the Theory Chairman of the Nashville Area Music Teachers Association and is the state newsletter editor for the Tennessee Music Teachers Association. She is an active judge for the National Guild of Piano Teachers and reviews new music for Piano Guild Notes. She travels all over the United States giving workshops for piano teachers on Playing the Piano Naturally,and has made performance injuries a lifetime project. Together with her husband, tenor Dr. Thomas King, she has performed all over the world.
