Brief Biography

Anita McGaha is the Executive Assistant to the University Counsel at Tennessee State University (TSU). As Executive Assistant, she is responsible for providing legal and administrative support under the direction of the University Counsel, Laurence Pendleton. Her responsibilities include litigation support, including coordinating responses to litigation discovery requests,  responding to Open Records Act requests, coordinating responses to subpoenas (Duces Tecum), responding to administrative agency requests, budget management, planning and forecasting, accounts payable/accounts receivable, departmental assessment - performance outcomes and managing the University Counsel's website.

Prior to her employment at TSU, Ms. McGaha served in several legal related capacities, including Executive Staff Assistant to Lisa S. Ponton, Esq., Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, Boston, Massachusetts; Paralegal at Chapman and Associates, Legal Assistant/Paralegal at Kinnaird and Kinnaird Law firm (Chicago, Illinois); and Legal Assistant at Chicago Title and Trust Company. Ms. McGaha's legal related work prior to coming to TSU centered on employment law, criminal law and real estate law. She has also held positions as the Director of Admission at Lakeland Manor Nursing Center (Chicago, IL) and the Assistant Office Manager at A.W. Zengler (Chicago, IL). Ms. McGaha has over twenty years of administrative and executive experience, over fifteen years in higher education experience; ten years at Tennessee State University, five years at Vanderbilt University and two years at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Ms. McGaha received her M.B.A. from Tennessee State University; B.A. (Management and Human Relations) Trevecca Nazarene University; and Paralegal Studies Degree from Nashville State Community College.
