Brief Biography

Jo A. Hayes

 

Jo A. Hayes is the Administrative Assistant IV in the Office of the General Counsel at Tennessee State University (TSU). Ms. Hayes is responsible for performing complex administrative functions in the Office of the General Counsel.  Her primary duties are centered on coordinating the receipt, routing, and filing of contracts submitted to the university counsel's office and conducting adequate follow up on contract routing and approval matters. She also greets and directs individuals visiting or calling the university counsel and engages in communication with the campus community regarding university counsel matters and researches policies, procedures and guidelines for university counsel and staff.

Prior to her employment at TSU, Ms. Hayes worked at Meharry Medical College, Office of the Dean, School of Dentistry, as an administrative services coordinator, where she served as executive assistant to the dean and in other capacities. She has also held positions as data entry clerk for Comdata Networks and secretary/receptionist for a private orthodontics dental practice.

She attended Florida Institute of Technology, major – health care management; Nashville State Community College, major – personnel management; and University of Tennessee - Nashville, major – office administration.

Ms. Hayes holds several certifications including a diploma in customer service from Alison Advance Learning Interactive Systems; a certification from Academic Impressions in improving customer service in higher education; a legal secretary professional development certificate from Columbia State University; an executive certificate of achievement in leadership and management from Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame; certification as a dental practice management administrator (CDPMA) from the Dental Assisting National Board; and a diploma as a business secretary from the Laural School for Professional Secretaries.
