WELCOME TO THE AEAO WRITING CENTER!
| WRITING CENTER/EVENING TUTORIAL PROGRAM The Writing Center is a support program that supplements instruction for writing courses in AEAO as well as in other courses in the University. It offers the following services:
|
| GROUP AND INDIVIDUALIZED WRITING SESSIONS The Writing Center conducts group as well as individual tutorial sessions for students enrolled in writing courses throughout the university. In order to receive assistance, a student may be instructor-referred or self-referred. Once a student is enrolled in the Center for assistance in writing, he/she works on a program designed to fit the student's needs as indicated by a diagnostic test (usually a writing sample) administered by the Center or the referral sheet submitted by the classroom instructor. The student works on this individualized program of study at his/her own pace. Students may enroll in the Center to receive assistance with any and all stages of the writing process. Enrollment may be for a few sessions or for an extended period of time. |
| ENGLISH INTENSIVE LABS The English Intensive Labs are offered on a limited basis and are designed to assist non-native speakers of English enrolled in AEAO writing courses and/or in Level I English. Students receive instruction through a variety of approaches, including individualized lessons, manipulative and computerized modules to study morphology, phonology, and syntax leading to an improvement in spelling, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, paragraphs and essays. |
| SPECIAL TOPICS WORKSHOPS (View Scheduled Workshops) Each semester, the Writing Center offers workshops on various topics, including revising and editing, grammar and mechanics, and sentence structure. These workshops are open to students throughout the University. Workshops may also be designed and presented at the special request of instructors in the University. In the past, these workshops have focused on such topics as preparing for standardized writing tests, taking essay tests, writing the technical report, and writing the research paper. To schedule a special workshop, instructors may contact the director Dr. Johnanna Grimes at 963-5580, or you may send an e-mail to jlgrimes@tnstate.edu.
The Writing Center operates Monday-Friday according to the schedule posted in the Center at the beginning of each semester. All individual sessions are by appointment and each session lasts for fifty minutes. |
| COMPUTERIZED TUTORIALS Students have access to computerized tutorials through the Writing Center or the Tutorial Computer Lab, managed by Mr. Michael Turner. This lab is open to all students in the university seeking assistance in completing labs for reading or writing as well as to those seeking general computer support (e-mail, word processing, etc.) Hours will vary each semester. Students may contact Mr. Turner at 963-5570 or through e-mail mjturner@tnstate.edu for the current schedule. |
| EVENING TUTORIAL PROGRAM AEAO provides evening tutorials in math for students enrolled in AEAO and Level I math courses. These sessions are by walk-in as well as by appointment and are generally offered from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm.
