Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Policy 4:01:05:00, Internal Audit, recognizes that the particular responsibilities and activities of internal audit departments may vary among the various TBR institutions, "... the fundamental purpose of internal auditing is to provide an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the institution's operations."
