Introduction

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is described as a computer-based system or tool with capabilities of inputting, storing, manipulating, and presenting geographically referenced data. At present, it is one of the most useful tools available for analyzing complex geographic data. GIS is fast becoming an indispensable tool for better decision-making in the management of natural resources.

The overall goal of this project is to produce a core of agricultural researchers and faculty at Tennessee State University in tune with an advanced approach to presenting and solving agricultural problems.

The project is being implemented in three phases:

Black 3d button Establishing a GIS training and research facility in the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research at Tennessee State University.
Black 3d button Conducting intensive hands-on GIS training workshops for researchers and faculty.
Black 3d button Assisting researchers and faculty in incorporating GIS into their research and teaching activities.
