Introduction
The Distinguished Support Staff Service
Award will be presented to a person who, in the preceding twelve (12)
months, has demonstrated outstanding initiative, inventiveness,
resourcefulness, dedication, and service above and beyond the call of
duty in their employment in the Institute of Agricultural and
Environmental Research.
The awardee must be a current, permanent,
Tennessee State University employee who has held a minimum 51% IAgER
appointment for the year nominated. IAgER support staff personnel
(Category 1300) are eligible for this award.
Nominations for the award can be made by
anyone at Tennessee State University. Self-nominations are allowed.
This award will be made to one qualified
IAgER support staff person each year during which at least one support
staff member meets requirements set by the Recognition and Awards
Committee. If no applicant/nominee meets the requirements, the award
will not be presented during that year.
There is no limitation on the number of
times a person can win this award.
Award Process:
You should submit a completed application
form and all required documentation, if applying yourself. If you are
nominating another person, you should submit the completed nomination
form with the following information:
• The nominee's name and position
• A brief description of the nominee's
employment duties
• A description (no length limitation) of
the initiative, inventiveness, resourcefulness, dedication, and service
above and beyond the call of duty for which the nominee is being
nominated
Each nominee will be contacted to verify
that he/she wants to participate in the award process. Those nominees
declining to participate in the process will have their nominations
withdrawn.
The Recognition and Awards Committee will
verify the names and duties of the persons nominated. The Committee will
also verify the accuracy of all information submitted. Multiple
nominations for the same person will be pooled into one nomination.
The Awards and Recognition
committee will obtain from the nominee's team leader or supervisor an
assessment form, which will be included in the nominee's application
packet. This assessment by the team leader or supervisor will
include the specific of: (1) The nominee's support of the Institute's
and Team's goals, (2) How well the nominee work with colleagues,
students and stakeholders, (3) Whether the nominee completes assigned
tasks, completes them in an exemplary manner, completes them on time,
etc. and (4) Any other pertinent details related to performance of
duties.
Verified nominations will be forwarded to
the External Review Panel for evaluation.
Specific Criteria for Selection
Criteria to be used by the External Review
Panel for comparing nominees:
• Was (Were) the noteworthy action(s) the
result of an assignment given to the employee or the product of the
employee's own initiative?
• To what degree did the action(s) fall
outside the normal scope of duties for the employee?
• To what degree were the action(s) above
and beyond that normally expected of this position?
• To what degree did the action(s) save the
department time, money or personnel hours?
• To what degree did the action(s) result in
increased productivity of the department?
• To what degree did the action(s) exhibit
significant inventiveness?
• To what degree did the employee's action(s)
enhance the department's stature at the local, state or national level
above what is normally expected in the position?
