Introduction
The awardee must be a current, permanent
Tennessee State University employee who has held a minimum 51% Institute
of Agricultural and Environmental Research appointment for the year
nominated. Associate Investigators, Principal Investigators, Research
Assistant Professors, Research Associate Professors, and Research
Professors are eligible for this award.
Nominations for the Distinguished Research
Scientist Award can be made by anyone at Tennessee State University.
Self-nominations are allowed.
The Distinguished Research Scientist Award
will be presented every year during which at least one researcher meets
requirements set by the Recognition and Awards Committee. If no nominee
meets the requirements set by the Awards Committee, the award will not
be presented during that year.
There is no limitation on the number of
times a person can win this award.
Award Process:
You should submit a completed application
form and all required documentation, if applying yourself. If you are
nominating another person, you should submit the completed nomination
form with the following information:
• The nominee's name and position
• A brief description of the nominee's
employment duties
• A description (no length limitation) of
the initiative, inventiveness, resourcefulness, dedication, and service
above and beyond the call of duty for which the nominee is being
nominated
Each nominee will be contacted to verify
that he/she wants to participate in the award process. Those nominees
declining to participate in the process will have their nominations
withdrawn.
The Recognition and Awards Committee will
verify the names and duties of the persons nominated. The Committee will
also verify the accuracy of all information submitted. Multiple
nominations for the same person will be pooled into one nomination.
The Awards and Recognition
committee will obtain from the nominee's team leader or supervisor an
assessment form, which will be included in the nominee's application
packet. This assessment by the team leader or supervisor will
include the specific of: (1) The nominee's support of the Institute's
and Team's goals, (2) How well the nominee work with colleagues,
students and stakeholders, (3) Whether the nominee completes assigned
tasks, completes them in an exemplary manner, completes them on time,
etc. and (4) Any other pertinent details related to performance of
duties.
Verified nominations will be forwarded to
the External Review Panel for evaluation.
Specific Criteria for Selection
Criteria to be used by the External Review
Panel for comparing nominees:
A. Publications: (A maximum of 10 points per
publication)
• Authorship of the publication
• Refereed vs. non-refereed publication
• Stature of the journal
• The type of publication (magazine,
newspaper, abstract, proceedings article, book/book chapter, bulletin,
etc.)
B. Presentations: (A maximum of 5 points per
presentation)
• Authorship of the presentation
• Type of meeting (professional or
non-professional, international, national or local)
• Invited, selected, general presentation
• Refereed vs. non-refereed presentation
• In-house presentation (IAgER or on-campus
TSU presentation)
C. Extramural Funding: (A maximum of 15
points per extramural funding)
• Proposal authorship (Project Director,
Co-Project Director or Collaborator)
• Status of proposal submitted (pending,
funded or not funded)
• Total amount of award, and Tennessee State
University's share of the total amount awarded
• Percent of funds used to support salaries
D. Letters of Recommendation
and Assessment Form (Maximum of 4 points)
