Introduction
The Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research (IAgER) at
Tennessee State University established merit-based awards to recognize
its research faculty, staff, and students who have distinguished themselves for work done
in agricultural research. These awards will be bestowed upon research
faculty, staff and students who have ultimately distinguished themselves
above others by characterized professionalism, attainment and
reputation. The awards are divided into six categories:
• Distinguished Research Scientist Award
• Distinguished Research Support Scientist
Award
• Distinguished Professional Staff Service
Award
• Distinguished Support Staff Service Award
• Outstanding Graduate Student Researcher
Award
• Outstanding Undergraduate Student
Researcher Award
The
Recognition and Awards Committee, consisting of IAgER faculty and
staff, will be responsible for verifying and ensuring that applications
and/or nominations for awards in all categories meet the criteria
specified for the award category, as outlined in these guidelines, and
ascertaining that application/nomination forms and supporting documents
are properly filed as required by set guidelines. The Recognition and
Awards Committee will announce annual deadlines for filing applications.
Additionally, the Committee will ensure that all award application
materials are available for download from the Internet on the Institute
of Agricultural and Environmental Research website at:
http://www.tnstate.edu/iager.
An External Review Panel will be used in evaluating candidates for
awards in all categories. That External Review Panel will be made up of
individuals with qualifications and expertise to evaluate the
applications/nominations for the IAgER awards. The External Review Panel
will review all applications and/or nominations and submit final
recommendations for awards to the IAgER Recognition and Awards
Committee. The Committee will then forward the Panel's recommendations
to the Dean and Research Director, Institute of Agricultural and
Environmental Research. The External Review Panel will consist of five
members selected jointly by the Committee and the Dean and Research
Director. The Dean and Research Director will ask panel members to
ensure that there are no conflict of interest issues arising from their
participation in evaluating award applications and/or nominations. The
final decision for the awards will be made jointly by the Recognition
and Awards Committee and the Dean and Research Director. The Recognition
and Awards Committee is responsible for establishing the criteria required for issuing
annual awards in all categories. The criteria will be communicated to
the Dean and Research Director and the External Review Panel. The Panel
will review all applications and/or nominations and recommend awards in
all categories. Any Recognition and Awards Committee member applying for
an award in any category will be excused from participating in the
Recognition and Awards Committee work for the period during which he/she
is an applicant.
The awards will be
presented annually, in any or all categories, when there are
distinguished
applicants/nominees. Awards need not be presented during any year in
which there are no distinguished applicants or nominees. Awards will be
presented during the month of December of each year. Details concerning
the specific date and time of the awards will be set by the Recognition
and Awards Committee. The timetable of activities leading up to the
award is set forth in the “Deadlines for Receipt of
Applications/Nominations and Awards Ceremony” section of this document.
