The Graduate Scholars Program
Career Development/Graduate and Professional Opportunities
The Graduate Scholars Program began during the fall semester of 2002. The Program provides students with an opportunity to attend graduate or professional school at select national institutions (referred to as feeder institutions). Under the Graduate Scholars agreement feeder institutions:
1) provide a campus visitation program for a select group of TSU students
2) provide summer research opportunities during the sophomore and junior years,
3) provide qualified applicants with tuition waivers, assistantships or fellowships (if available,) and
4) grant admission to 1-5 qualified TSU graduates who are interested in pursing advanced degrees at their institution.
Why the Graduates Scholars Program?
The rationale behind the Graduate Scholars Program is two-fold. First, TSU students gain access to a broader array of disciplines and professional degree programs that may or may not be available to them at TSU. Second, through the Graduate Scholar Program, partnering institutions hope to reverse the declining number of African-American (and other minority) degree holders, especially at the doctoral level.
Criteria to Participate
In order to participate in the Graduate Scholars program, students must complete an application and submit a letter of recommendation. They also must meet the following criteria:
· Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00
· Be a citizen of the United States
· Be willing to travel and study at the feeder institution, if accepted
· Sign a letter of agreement outlining the guidelines of participation in the program
