SUMMER 2014 Arrival Information 

INCOMING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

 The Summer 2014 session is just around the corner and we are looking forward to your arrival on campus.  The following information will assist you in preparation for your arrival, the registration process and your transition into Nashville.

 UNDERGRADUATE students will need to arrive in Nashville no later than May 22, 2014.

GRADUATE students will need to arrive in Nashville no later than May 27, 2014.

AIRPORT ARRIVAL & TEMPORARY HOUSING

If you need transportation from the airport, we have partnered with Nations of Nashville to provide shuttle service.  They can also provide assistance with temporary housing and resources for locating permanent housing.  If you would like to utilize their services you can register with them at:

 If you are planning to stay on campus and have not completed a housing application with Residence Life, please let me know immediately by replying to this email.

ORIENTATION, ADVISEMENT & REGISTRATION 

International student orientation will be held on  Wednesday , May 28th at 1:00 pm . Advisement and course registration will take place on Thursday May 29th.  Classes begin June 2nd.  Please send an email to Mattie Davis at  ODIA@tnstate.edu  to confirm your attendance for orientation.

 International Student Orientation is MANDATORY for ALL incoming international students!

TESTING 

If you are an undergraduate student and you are required to take the COMPASS test
you need to register online for the test using the following link:

  http://www.registerblast.com/tsu/Exam/Index?Group=193

 Your admission letter will state if you are required to take the COMPASS test.  Graduate students do not take the COMPASS test.  Please note that international students must take the COMPASS test on Friday, May 23rd  or Tuesday, May 27th The test is offered on both of these dates at 9:00an and  1:00 pm .  If you are required to take the COMPASS test, you will not be allowed to register until you have completed the test.

 FIRST FRIENDS PROGRAM

 We began a new partnership program this year to assist incoming students with their transition into the Southeast United States, Nashville and Tennessee State University.  The First Friends Program allows incoming students to choose up to three partners. The Regional Peer is a current student from your region of the world.  The academic peer is a student from your academic department.  The Community Partner is someone from the Nashville area but is not a host family.  If you are interested in this program, please complete the application using the following link:

2014 Study Abroad Program for Students

As we now live in a global society, intercultural experiences have become a vital part of the student’s professional and personal development. These experiences will increase their global awareness, simulate scholarly inquiry and make them more competitive in today’s global marketplace. Below are the actions for students to begin their 2014 study abroad experience:

Step 1 :

Select the Country, Program, and Course for a study abroad experience.   Click on these links: http://www.tncis.org , http://www.isep.org/, and http://www.scholarlaureate.org/ View Countries, Programs, and Course offerings provided by The Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TnCIS) and other programs.

Step 2:

Complete and submit an application for the program selected in Step 1.

Step 3:

Students can start today by attending one of the application workshops listed below to begin their unique and life changing international experience.
