General Statement: The School of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences
seeks to carry out the University's mandates in instruction, research and
public service. Instruction is achieved through three academic departments:
Agricultural Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Hospitality and
Tourism Administration. The academic departments maintain a collaborative
relationship with the research and extension programs. Research is state and
federally funded and is administered through the Institute of Agricultural
and Environmental Research (IAGER), which focuses on research that will
enhance the quality of life for all people. Public service is carried out by
the Cooperative Extension Program, which works in collaboration with the
University of Tennessee's Extension Service. The mission of the TSU
Cooperative Extension Program is to extend educational information statewide
to urban and rural families, as well as other groups and organizations, for
the purpose of addressing critical needs and issues that will result in a
better quality of life for people.
