 Portfolio Assessment

Portfolio Assessment is one process to document learning that takes place
  outside the classroom.

A PLA portfolio is detailed documentation illustrating what students have been taught and successfully mastered.  The required documentation varies from course to course, but may include samples of work, and essay explaining students’ experiences and knowledge, or certificates showing successful completion of workshops or seminars.

Tennessee State University accepts up to 60 semester hours of prior learning credit for a Bachelors’ degree and up to 30 semester hours for an Associates’ degree from various sources, including Advanced Placement (AP) exams, International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams, American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations, military training and assessment by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), a partner of Tennessee State University.

If you are ready to seek college credit, CAEL 100, Prior Learning Assessment Theory and Practice , a TSU three (3) semester hour online instructor-led course, will assist students in the identification of areas of learning they may want to have evaluated for a college-level course. The course will guide students through the preparation and compilation of all components required for the evaluation of a prior learning portfolio.
