Dr. Cara Robinson

Dr. Cara Robinson is the Chief of Staff to the Provost and Interim Executive Director of Academic Initiatives in the Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.  She previously served as the Department Chair for the Department of Social Work and Urban Studies at TSU from 2015-2020.  In addition to her current role, Dr. Robinson is an Associate Professor of Urban Studies. Dr. Robinson has taught undergraduate courses in Urban Studies and Nonprofit Management and Leadership and graduate courses in Public Administration in the College of Public Service at Tennessee State University. She also previously served as the Coordinator of the TSU Community Democracy Project and Acting Director for the TSU Center on Aging Research and Education Services. Between 2005-2007, Dr. Robinson was the Executive Director for the Homeless Planning Council of Delaware.  Dr. Robinson graduated in August 2011 from the University of Delaware with a Ph.D. in Urban Affairs and Public Policy. Dr. Robinson has published in the areas of online activism, homeless and housing policy, Central Appalachian social and economic issues, nonprofit management, and civic engagement. Dr. Robinson lives in Nashville with her husband Jonathan, daughter Miki, and son Beau.
