Celeste Bishop Stein rejoins Tennessee State University in the fall of 2012 as a temporary full-time Associate Professor in the Department of Communications at Tennessee State University. Stein previously worked as an Adjunct Professor at TSU and another local University teaching classes in broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing, writing across platforms for radio and television, and broadcast news during the past nine years.
Stein comes to us from the School of Journalism and Broadcasting at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green where she recently served as a full time Assistant Professor from August 2009 through June of 2012.
Stein’s career in broadcast journalism includes work as a news and weather anchor and reporter for radio and television stations in Nashville, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Atlanta. She started her on air career at the age of 17, working as a news reporter, producer, and talk show host on WHUR Radio in Washington, D.C.
In addition, Stein established her credentials as an entrepreneur with the founding of Bishop, Stein & Associates P.R., Inc., noted in the Nashville Business Journal as one of areas largest Public Relations firms during the past decade. Stein served as President & CEO and worked as a Consultant in the firm for more than 200 local and national companies, local and state government agencies, non-profit organizations, athletes, entertainers and individuals.
Stein has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She also holds a Master of Science degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Stein has future plans to pursue a doctorate degree in Media Psychology and is working on completing her first novel.
